Reports To: Production Manager

Job Summary:

The Pallet Builder is responsible for constructing and assembling wooden pallets, crates, and shipping containers to ensure the safe transport of custom products and materials. This role requires proficiency in using hand and power tools, the ability to read blueprints or work orders, and strong attention to detail to ensure proper pallet dimensions and durability. The Pallet Builder plays a key role in protecting products during shipping and maintaining efficient workflow in the warehouse.


Key Responsibilities:

Pallet Construction & Assembly

  • Build custom-sized and standard wooden pallets using saws, nail guns, drills, and other tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, or work orders to determine pallet or crate dimensions.
  • Cut, measure, and assemble wood components accurately to maintain structural integrity.
  • Ensure all pallets meet weight capacity, durability, and shipping requirements.
  • Repair and reinforce damaged pallets as needed.

Quality Control & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all pallets are built to proper size and strength specifications to protect HVAC equipment during transport.
  • Perform visual and structural inspections on completed pallets before use.
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety policies, including proper PPE use and safe tool handling.
  • Keep work area clean and organized to prevent safety hazards.

Material Handling & Efficiency

  • Maintain accurate inventory of wood, nails, and other materials to avoid production delays.
  • Minimize waste by optimizing cuts and reusing scrap materials when possible.
  • Work with shipping and production teams to meet pallet-building needs efficiently.
  • Ensure pallets are completed on time to meet production and shipping deadlines.

Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Work closely with the shipping, warehouse, and production teams to ensure smooth logistics operations.
  • Communicate with supervisors regarding material shortages, production delays, or quality issues.
  • Accurately and consistently use the company's ERP system to document work time, inventory usage, job progress, and any other required information in a timely manner.
  • Assist in loading and securing pallets onto trucks when needed.

Performance Metrics:

  1. Production Efficiency: Construct 99%+ of pallets within standard production time estimates.
  2. Measurement Accuracy: Ensure 100% of pallets meet dimensional and weight capacity requirements.
  3. Safety Compliance: Maintain zero lost-time injuries by following safety protocols.
  4. Material Optimization: Reduce wood waste by at least 10% through efficient cutting and reuse practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience:
    • 1+ years of experience in woodworking, pallet building, or construction preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Ability to use hand tools (hammers, measuring tape, saws) and power tools (nail guns, drills, circular saws, table saws) safely and effectively.
    • Knowledge of wood types, fasteners, and structural reinforcement techniques.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and shipping requirements.
    • Basic math skills for measuring and cutting materials accurately.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform repetitive tasks such as hammering, cutting, and assembling.
