Job Title: Welding Technician II

Department: Manufacturing
Reports To: Welding Lead

Job Summary:

The Welding Technician II is responsible for welding and fabricating manufactured products according to blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications. This role requires expertise in various welding techniques, precision, and a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welding & Fabrication: Perform MIG and TIG welding on a variety of metals, including stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel, to manufacture custom HVAC components.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to ensure precise welding and fabrication.
  • Metal Preparation: Cut, grind, and prepare metal surfaces before welding to ensure strong, clean welds.
  • Quality Control: Inspect and test welds to ensure they meet company and industry standards, making adjustments as needed.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain welding machines, tools, and other equipment to ensure proper operation and longevity.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all company and OSHA safety procedures, including wearing proper PPE and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, fabricators, and assembly teams to ensure efficient production and high-quality custom HVAC products.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and troubleshoot welding and fabrication issues, offering solutions to improve production efficiency and quality.
  • ERP System: Accurately and consistently use the company's ERP system to document work time, inventory usage, job progress, and any other required information in a timely manner.

Performance Metrics:

  1. Weld Quality Pass Rate: Maintain a minimum 98% weld quality pass rate, as determined by internal inspections and industry standards.
  2. Production Efficiency: Complete assigned welding tasks within 5% of estimated project time to support on-time production schedules.
  3. Safety Compliance: Achieve and maintain zero lost-time injuries by consistently following safety protocols and best practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of welding experience, preferably in a custom manufacturing environment.
  • Certifications: Welding certifications (AWS, ASME, or equivalent) are a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding, as well as experience with plasma cutters, grinders, and other fabrication tools.
  • Blueprint Reading: Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to produce high-quality welds with precision.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform welding tasks in a variety of positions and environments, including working from ladders, elevated platforms, confined spaces, kneeling, crouching, lying down, overhead, and other non-standard positions as required by the project.
  • Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, bending, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Must be able to see details at close range.

Flexibility Requirement:

Due to the dynamic nature of our production process, all employees are expected to be flexible in their work assignments. If there is a temporary shortage of work in your primary department or craft, you may be assigned to assist in other departments or perform tasks outside your usual scope of work. Refusal to accept such assignments may result in being sent home without pay for that period. This ensures continuous workflow and supports overall company productivity.
